Description

A mountain patrol leads Wyoming game warden Joe Pickett into a dangerous situation in this gripping novel from #1 New York Times bestselling author C. J. Box.

It's Joe Pickett's last week as a temporary game warden in the mountain town of Baggs, Wyoming, but his conscience won't let him leave without checking out the strange reports coming from the wilderness: camps looted, tents slashed, elk butchered. What awaits him is like something out of an old campfire tale, except this story is all too real—and all too deadly.

Review

  • Another hit from CJ Box!

The depth and richness of the story line was fantastic, with excellent character development, as usual! Joe Picket continues to shine as a worthwhile protagonist and his sidekick Nate Romanowski doesn’t disappoint either. Hands down the best series I’ve ever read, can’t put it down!

Entertaining, but largely not believable...even for fiction. Main character doesn't act like an experienced woodsman or LE official. He just sort of fumbles his way through the book.
  • Intense

Fast easy read. High entertainment value. I thought it was one of Box's better stories. So much better to read a nicely written book than to watch a movie or tv show. I liked the ending. ETE

My first CJ Box book. The characters are engaging and the story timely, but unique. I enjoyed the Wyoming setting. Definitely recommend to mystery fans. Will continue to read his books.
