A husband's secret life, a wife's new beginning: escape to the Caribbean with #1 New York Times bestselling author Elin Hilderbrand.

Irene Steele shares her idyllic life in a beautiful Iowa City Victorian house with a husband who loves her to sky-writing, sentimental extremes. But as she rings in the new year one cold and snowy night, everything she thought she knew falls to pieces with a shocking phone call: her beloved husband, away on business, has been killed in a helicopter crash. Before Irene can even process the news, she must first confront the perplexing details of her husband's death on the distant Caribbean island of St. John.

After Irene and her sons arrive at this faraway paradise, they make yet another shocking discovery: her husband had been living a secret life. As Irene untangles a web of intrigue and deceit, and as she and her sons find themselves drawn into the vibrant island culture, they have to face the truth about their family, and about their own futures.

Rich with the lush beauty of the tropics and the drama, romance, and intrigue only Elin Hilderbrand can deliver, Winter in Paradise is a truly transporting novel, and the exciting start to a new series.

"I will just say that, 24 hours after I started this book, I purchased its sequel, What Happens in Paradise, and I did not leave either book to be enjoyed by strangers at the end of my vacation." —Elisabeth Egan, New York Times

  • Entertaining reading

I've read 5 of her books now and they are entertaining reading, not too light, not too heavy. One thing I never want to be is the mystery husband in all the ones I've read so far because he is always dead, perhaps from an airplane crash or helicopter.
  • Enjoyable!

I enjoyed this book and it kept me guessing. It felt realistic or even possible the as events rolled out. I continued on with the 2nd and 3rd books. But really wish it was all rolled into one book.

A real heartstring grabber for romantics. Also the great descriptions definitely make me want to visit the USVI.
  • A Rip Off

I enjoyed the book right up to the point where it ends as “to be continued”.

This book was entertaining with interesting characters. The plot was woven well and moved at a good pace. The ending was very abrupt and did not keep well with the storyline. Very disappointed in this book.
  • The ending??

I wish this book, and the 1st book in this trilogy, would focus a lot more on the crime and a little less on the relationships. The ending is... too much? Of a cliffhanger. Still light, quick reads. Just wish these books had a bit more substance.

  • Did the author have to suddenly leave?

Such a total waste of time! Author should have spent more time on plot and less time on ridiculous character names. Maybe she would have had enough creative energy to actually finish the story!
  • Not a complete book

As others have commented, this book jumps off a cliff at the end and the only way you can continue reading is to buy the next book. Very annoying. (Next book does just the same thing).
